Happy Holidays from Petrolia Discovery
Petrolia Discovery is now closed for the winter. Like flowers, many historical sites are closed for the winter to rebuild strength ready to burst into bloom in spring. At Discovery we have been busy restoring and rebuilding: the field wheels have been rebuilt, the Fitzgerald rig work is coming along nicely, after more than 100 yrs. of wear and tear the 22 foot diameter bull wheel circumference has been totally replaced. We are so thankful for our volunteers, their expertise and time.
This year our volunteers have done an enormous amount of cleaning and sorting. The flagpoles and entrance barriers have been expertly painted. Windows have been refurbished and glass replaced. Ground has been dug and flowers planted. Grass has been cut, weeds attacked, brush cut back and the roadway graded. The site has been cleaned up of old pipe and debris and is much improved. Many critters have been caught and relocated, there are still a few who continue to call Petrolia Discovery home, they will not be disturbed until Spring. Our sincere thanks to our dedicated volunteers, our visitors and supporters.
More work will take place in the spring and Petrolia Discovery will be well worth a visit. Look out for Open House announcements in the new year.
Best wishes from us all at Petrolia Discovery and see you in 2020.
